Your employer has partnered with Thatch to give you more control, clarity, and flexibility when it comes to your healthcare.
As a member, Thatch is where you:
- Set up your account.
- Compare plan and benefit options.
- Enroll in coverage.
- Spend your Thatch balance (if enabled by your employer)
- Manage your plan options and changes during open enrollment or after qualifying life events (QLE).
You, your employer, Thatch, and your insurance companyinsurance company The company that provides insurance coverage. Also called an insurance provider.
With Thatch, your employer provides you a monthly pre-tax allowanceallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses. to spend on individual health insurance and other healthcare costs. This program is called an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement ArrangementIndividual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement An employer-funded arrangement that reimburses employees tax-free for individual health insurance premiums and qualified medical expenses, instead of the employer offering a group health plan. Also called a CHOICE Arrangement., or ICHRA for short.
At a basic level, Thatch changes how your health insurance is paid for. But it also empowers you to make the best financial healthcare decisions for your situation.
You can choose from any individual, ACA-compliant health insurance plan available in your region. This gives you greater control over the doctors you can visit, the prescriptions covered, and the amount you pay.
Your health insurance plan is yours, not your employer's.

After you select your health insurance plan, Thatch pays your monthly premiums from this allowanceallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses..
If the premiums exceed your monthly allowanceallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses., the remaining premium amount becomes a pre-tax deduction from your paycheck.
If the premiums are less than your monthly allowanceallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses., you may have a Thatch balance, if your employer enables this feature.

Spend your Thatch balance
If your employer enables a Thatch balance, and your premium costs less than your monthly allowanceallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses., you will have additional dollars to spend on:
- Other eligible benefits such as dental and vision coverage
- Qualified medical expensesqualified medical expense A type of healthcare cost that counts as eligible for specific plans or accounts. (QME), including prescriptions, copays, procedures, sunscreen, allergy medicine, and more
- The Thatch Marketplace, a virtual store of Thatch-exclusive discounts, high-quality products, and additional services
With this in mind, you decide the strategy that works best for you when choosing a plan. For example, you may want a plan with lower premiums but intend to spend more on QME.
