Enroll in a plan

After comparing plans and deciding upon a benefit strategy, you enroll in a health insurance plan.

At this point, Thatch already knows:

• Who you are and who’s in your household
• Your employer’s allowanceallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses. and eligibility rules
• Which insurance plans you’ve reviewed

The enrollment process uses that information to:

1. Capture your final choice.
2. Communicate your selection to the insurance companyinsurance company The company that provides insurance coverage. Also called an insurance provider..
3. Set Thatch up to handle billing.

Complete enrollment

The enrollment experience varies by employer and plan, but it typically includes these steps:

• Confirm who you’re covering

  Thatch asks you to confirm which dependents you’re including. Changing this can affect both your options and your costs.

  For any additional dependents, be certain to provide requested Personally Identifiable InformationPersonally Identifiable Information Any data that could be used to identify a specific individual, such as their name, date of birth, address, or Social Security number. Thatch collects PII to verify identities and administer benefits. (PII).

• Review costs and funding

  Before you submit the enrollment form, Thatch shows the financial implications:

  • How much of your Thatch allowanceallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses. is used
  • Whether you’ll have additional monthly contributions (such as payroll deductions)
  • The estimated impact over the plan year

• Answer plan‑specific questions

  Some plans or regulations require additional information or tasks (for example, acknowledge of legal agreements). Thatch only asks for what’s needed to complete the enrollment.

• Opt into Thatch text messages

  The Thatchbot tool can send you important reminders—never marketing material—about your Thatch account. For example, you might be notified about a missing receipt for a charge. To minimize problems down the line, please consent to receiving these messages.

• Submit your enrollment

  You’ll review a summary of your selections and confirm them. Behind the scenes, Thatch sends this information to the appropriate parties so your coverage can start on the correct date.

After you enroll

After enrollment, your Thatch dashboard typically shows:

• A summary of your chosen coverage
• The expected start date of your plan year or coverage period
• Any next steps that apply to the insurance you picked, such as providing proof of residency or setting up autopay with your insurance companyinsurance company The company that provides insurance coverage. Also called an insurance provider.

Your coverage begins on the 1st of the month after you select your plan, unless:

• You enroll in a plan during the last two days of the month, in which case your coverage starts on the 1st of the month after next. For example, if you enroll on March 30th, coverage begins May 1st.
• You enroll during national open enrollment (November and December) for January 1st coverage.

Many insurance companies also provide your Member ID to Thatch. If so, you'll see the Member ID in your Thatch dashboard.

Note that a missing Member ID in your Thatch dashboard doesn't mean you're without coverage.
