Set up your Thatch account
If you're new to Thatch, the first step is to set up your Thatch member account. Through your Thatch account you'll:
- Compare and select health insurance plans
- Use your Thatch allowanceallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses.
- Update your coverage after a qualifying life eventqualifying life event A change in life—such as marriage, birth, or loss of other coverage—that may allow employees to change benefits mid-year. (QLE)
- And more
But first, you need to activate your account, confirm your personal details, and tell Thatch about your household. These steps enable Thatch to present you with the best insurance options.

1. Click the sign up link in your email.
Check your inbox for an email with the subject: [Your employer] is inviting you to select your health benefits through Thatch.
Click the link in that email to start the process.
Don't have the link? Reach out to your employer and ask them to resend it.
2. Set up your login credentials.
Confirm the email address you want to use with Thatch. The email address is prepopulated with one provided to Thatch. We strongly encourage you to use a personal email address.
Your health insurance plan and your Thatch account are tied to you, not your employer. Ensure you use an email address you can access at any time.
Thatch uses passwordless sign-in as the default login method for enhanced security, as passwords are vulnerable to phishing attacks and data breaches.
To access your account in the future:
- Go to the Thatch login page.
- Enter your email address.
- Click Email me a sign-in link.
- Check your inbox for an email from Thatch with your secure sign-in link.
- Click the link in the email to log in.
Magic links are valid for 20 minutes after being sent. If your link expires, request a new one.
3. Enter your personal details.
Provide basic information like your name, date of birth, and address. Thatch needs these details to:
- Personalize your employer-provided allowanceallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses.
- Determine which plans are available in your area
- Enroll you with an insurance companyinsurance company The company that provides insurance coverage. Also called an insurance provider.

It's a tax-free benefit you can use to pay for your insurance premiums and, if your employer allows it, other qualified medical expensesqualified medical expense A type of healthcare cost that counts as eligible for specific plans or accounts. (QME) — like copays, prescriptions, and dental and vision costs.

5. Add dependents (if applicable).
Add any dependents whom you want covered by your insurance. If your employer includes dependent allowancesallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses. in your benefits, you'll see the allowanceallowance The amount an employer makes available to help employees pay for coverage or eligible expenses. increase as you add them. For each dependent, Thatch typically needs:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification NumberIndividual Taxpayer Identification Number A tax processing number issued by the IRS to individuals who are not eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN). ITINs are used for federal tax reporting purposes and may be accepted in place of an SSN when enrolling in certain health insurance plans. (ITIN)
- Relationship (such as spouse or child)
Add your dependents at this stage of the process so Thatch can correctly estimate costs and show you plan options that work for your whole household.
